Each assignment in this course has been carefully linked to learning objectives that will prove invaluable in building your strengths and pursuing your objectives in your chosen career, whether or not you become a professional economist.
This course aims to have grading standards and results that are not significantly different from those that prevail at the home campus. Over recent semesters the grade average has been B+/A- and the distribution is indicated in the chart below.

Curving is sometimes applied for more challenging assignments to ensure that results do not stray too far out of line with the historical norm. That said, the central advice provided on the “ideal” distribution is intended only as a guideline and instructors are at liberty to give whatever grades they think appropriate, subject to rigorous academic standards being maintained. Any grade deductions caused by unexcused absences are administered centrally, not by the instructors. Therefore it is imperative that you go through the appropriate procedures, described in your syllabus, if you are absent from class.
Students will get detailed feedback on their progress as each assignment is returned and, as the course progresses, such feedback will include a cumulative weighted average (in letter grade format). Needless to say, students should NOT treat a cumulative weighted average as a final grade forecast. The timetable and weights for graded assignments are provided in your syllabus. Further details and instructions can be found on Brightspace and in relevant posts on this website.
